Love Flower

Belonging to the same family as the sunflower, Asteraceae/Composutae the Cosmos, native to the scrub and meadow-lands of Mexico, are herbaceous perennial plants or annual plants.

 It was first discovered by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, and because of it's fantastic even petal arrangement the flower got it's name "Cosmos", derived from the Greek word "Kosmos" meaning order, harmony, peace and tranquility of the universe. The Cosmos also associate with Love, romance and affection, and in the Greek mythology, the Cosmos are also related to the goddess of love Aphrodite. Therefore, also called "Love Flower". 

In most Asian countries, the flower symbolizes innocence and purity. In Mexico, the flowers are correlated to deities or spiritual beings. In Belgium and Austria, the black cosmos are used in funerals, as it represents death.

Cosmos are also widely regarded for their medicinal value, for being anti-diabetic, anti-bacterial and also for improving circulation, strengthening bones and for treating skin problems.

The best time to grow this flower is in between summer and fall. But due to their delicate stem, heavy rain can cause the stem to break down.

The meaning of the flower is not different just based on different cultures or myths. It's meaning also varies depending on the colors of the flower.

Since it's discovery in the 16th century, the Cosmos have spread to far off places, from North America, Europe to Asia. This simple yet pretty flower has managed to maintain it's awe still today. Be it because of it's importance in many cultures or for medicinal purposes. It still inspires to maintain order, harmony, peace, innocence and love among ourselves.
